I was raised in Christian home. It was nice and I was cared for. Eventually I questioned my parent’s religion and then stopped attending church. After a while I wondered about the purpose of life, but I had no idea that God had anything to do with it.

In 1988 I was living a comfortable lifestyle in Cocoa Beach. I began to feel compelled to read the Bible, mostly to prove to myself once and for all that it had no application in my life. So I purchased a Kings James Bible from a used book store for 25 cents. I slowly waded through the Old Testament. Then I came to I Corinthians 6:9-10:

"Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God." 

God spoke to me directly from His Word. I received no personal witness or invitation to attend a church, and no television or radio evangelist convicted me of my sin. If God did this for me, then He can and will do it for others, also.

Just as a man will relentlessly pursue the woman he loves, our Heavenly Father relentlessly pursues us. God is not mad at us, He’s mad about us! Jesus came to save us from our sins, not condemn us for them (John 3:17). God wants to adopt us as His own sons & daughters (Ephesians 1:5). 

Our society today is faced with tremendous problems. The source of our problems is not unemployment or lack of opportunity, education, or natural resources. While these all contribute to our problems, the true source of our problems is our own sinful character. For our problems to be truly solved, our character first needs to be changed. More specifically, our sinful character needs to be transformed into God’s holy character. More employment, opportunity, education, or natural resources will not solve our society’s problems, because the true source of our problems is spiritual in nature. What good does it do us to have more employment, opportunity, education, or natural resources if we do not have the moral character to use them wisely? God’s Word has the spiritual power to transform our character from the inside out, and that’s why it is so relevant to our society today.

God’s Word includes His Ten Commandments. They are not designed to keep us from having fun, but to keep us out of trouble. They are His form of “tough love”, which is a concept that any good parent understands. 

While there are people today who have been Christians all of their lives, millions of other Christians converted to Christianity because they were convicted by the Word of God that sin is real, that God and Satan are real, that heaven and hell are real, and that there are eternal consequences (and rewards) for how we conduct our physical lives here on Earth. If you are uncertain whether God exists or if the Bible is truly His inspired Word, then we challenge you to read the Bible at least once with an open mind to determine for yourself if it is what it claims to be. If you do this, then somewhere between Genesis 1 and Revelation 22 God will speak to your heart and convict you of all these things.

Lastly, if you’re not a Christian then please don’t think that the majority of Christians are pointing accusatory fingers at you for the lifestyle that you’ve been living. Instead, understand that a majority of Christians have come out of a sinful lifestyle, and want to share the good news we call the ‘Gospel’ that you too can be freed from a sinful lifestyle. You need no longer be deceived.
